Rewallin Virginals

Sound Gallery are to record the notes from two Virginals built by Charles Rewallin of Exeter. The first is dated 1675 and is in the Exeter Royal Albert Memorial Museum, the second is dated two years earlier and is currently in the Somerset County Museum. There are plans also to record a rectangular virginal by John Loosemore, Exeter, 1655 in the V&A Museum in London and to explore the trade and construction of these magnificent keyboard instruments in Exeter in the 17th century.

These, along with a Kirkman Harpsichord and an example of an early piano will be sampled and archived with a view to providing access to them in virtual form.

Sound Gallery are to produce a CD in the future including examples of all these instruments and more. As with the Sodi, these instruments will become part of the installation / exhibition planned for the future.
